They make latches for dishwashers. Never tried one, though. But our oven latch didn't last long -- my husband forgot about it, opened the oven while it was latched, and snapped the latch in half. I would worry about the dishwasher latch meeting the same fate.
In order to keep Nathan from doing the same thing, I just wait until the kids are in bed to run the dishwasher. Otherwise Nathan wants to open the dishwasher and "help" loading and unloading.
