Home "Improvement"

I've got the porch mostly scraped and ready to be painted, but I've run out of enthusiasm for the project, so I'm going to pioneer the "shabby chic" look in exterior painting.  These things have to start somewhere, right?

I pioneered the 'let's just use the primer and not actually paint' look in our downstairs bathroom for years, and nobody noticed....

LOL. Our house was mint green when we bought it, and I decided it needed to be a nice shade of brown to fit in with all of the other beige houses in our neighborhood. (Actually, I picked a cocoa color. The guy at Home Depot thought I was insane when I made him color match a cold cup of hot chocolate I'd bought at Scooter's on my way there.)

Anyway. Halfway through painting, I decided I wasn't sure if I liked the cocoa or not. So there our house sat, half mint green and half cocoa for THREE months while I decided that I did, in fact, like the cocoa after all. But in the meantime my house looked like one of those candies they put on your pillow at a nice hotel.

I got tired or painting the rails and spinals on my porch so we tore them out and replaced them with metal columns.

I am also tired of staining the deck and an considering replacing it with a concrete patio.

I think all home improvement projects should result in an easier to care for house.
