St. Thomas, Day 1

So, originally I had 3 flights to get here (O'Hare to Miami, Miami to San Juan, San Juan to St. Thomas), but because of the snow in Chicago (boo, hiss!) I missed my connection in Miami and ended up going straight from Miami to St. Thomas. And instead of having people sitting next to us on the second flight, Claire and I had the entire row to ourselves! It was awesome!

Not only that, but we ended up on the same flight as the bride and groom (Amanda and Matt) and Matt's aunt, cousin, and cousin's fiance. We couldn't have planned it better. We had time to catch up in the airport and, more importantly, I had someone to hold the baby while I went to the bathroom.

I didn't bring the stroller (against my own advice) because the snow made us so late to the airport, I didn't want to have to mess with it. Turns out that it would've been fine, with the delays, but I didn't know that at the time. I have the sling, though, so I'm fine.

Claire was absolutely super. She took her morning nap on the first flight and her afternoon nap on the second flight! It was perfect. People were actually surprised to see that I had a baby with me when we stood up to get off of the second flight. The lady who sat next to us on the first flight was from Columbia, and she was so sweet. She has two granddaughters, herself, and so she was extremely sympathetic and helpful. I felt like I should've tipped her!

The hotel is really beautiful. Amanda and Matt and I walked around tonight and checked out the place where the wedding will be. I'm looking forward to seeing everything in daylight. The island sure is pretty at night, with all the lights going up the mountain.

I miss my big girl. It's hard to be away from her. I miss her Daddy, too, of course, but he and I have survived a week apart before. I've already been away from her longer, now, than I have ever been away from her before. It's hard, but in the end I think it'll be good for both of us.

If I can find the cable that goes from the camera to the computer, I'll post some pictures tomorrow....

You should've asked if they needed a wedding photographer. I'm sure we could've hired an "islander" to watch Claire while we went out clubbing!!! Hope you have fun. BJ and MG will be just fine. Enjoy yourself...
Love ya,

Amy and Claire
So happy to know you had easy flights and got to St Thomas OK.
It does ones heart/soul good to drink in that wonderful, bright sunshine and hear the steeldrum music. Just what the "doctor ordered." Enjoy :)
