WFMW: Tie Kids' Shoes

This one is a special request from my sister, Megan, whose thumbs are exactly as goofy looking as mine.

I have a confession to make. I am 31 years old and I can't tie my shoes the "normal" way. No matter how many bunnies went 'round the tree, or whatever goofy phrase someone told me to try to teach me how to tie my shoes, I couldn't do it. I can't knit either. Hand-eye coordination is obviously not my strong suit.

I can tie my shoes, though, thanks to my very clever Mom who taught me to do it the other way. Here we go:

Tie a knot:

Make two loops:

Cross the loops:

Pull one loop under the other:

Pull them tight:

There you have it! This way is much easier for kids' chubby fingers and people with goofy thumbs. Works for me!

You don't tie the right way! Mom taught us that when you tie the RIGHT :) way...you tie normally but instead of only looping through once, you loop through twice. It's a double knot without the difficulty of untying the knot. It's a first grade teacher's dream come true!!
