I can haz books?

This is just going to be a quickie because it's been a really busy day and BJ and I are about to watch a movie... But I have over 50 credits at PaperBackSwap (see link over on the right and down a bit), and I wondered if anyone had read any good books lately. I have about a dozen in my to read pile, but I can't get into any of them. Wrong mood. I need a new author to fall in love with so I can work my way through his or her complete works (as I've done with Diana Gabaldon, Jodi Picoult, etc.).

So, what are you reading? Who do you love? What do you recommend? I think I need something funny and quirky, and romantic, but maybe a little dark... I need a little darkness in my books to balance out all the Berenstein Bears I'm made to read every day.

Try Christopher Moore, I recommend "Lamb" or Jasper Fforde,"Thursday Next" but skip "Over Easy" unless you like Humpty Dumpty. Tho the line about the gingerbread man being 6 ft tall but only 1/4 inch thick was clever.

I read tons and I like all kinds of books but recently I began reading JD Robb and Nora Roberts (one in the same author). I had avoided her books mainly because she is so prolific. (After falling in love with Stephen King's early writing, the more prolific he became, the less I liked his writing, prolific to me began to equal bad.) Anyway, JD Robb's In Death books are kinda fun, and I've really enjoyed most of Nora Robert's books. Email me if you want any specifics on them.

If you want a couple good reads, Time Traveler's Wife and Love Walked In are two of my favorite debut novels.

Over 50 credits! Wow, I have 2. I can't handle keeping them though. I have heard vey good things about Time Traveler's Wife. I love most Sandra Brown and Mary Higgins Clark. One can never go wrong with the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
I am (adymommy) on PBS if you want to look at my bookshelf.

Have you ever tried Lilian Jackson Braun's Cat Who books? They are cute mysteries and fun reads. I just recently started reading them.

I was really, really blown away by Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. I read it last summer and it was just stunned me. Apparently it is being made into a movie starring Johnny Depp.

I don't read a lot of series, so any of my recommendations will probably just be one-offs. But a couple of one-timers will slowly eat into the list anyway, right?

Recently I read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and it was engrossing, beautiful, romantic, funny, and sad.

A few months ago I read Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl and I enjoyed it, then I lent it to like, five of my friends and they all LOVED LOVED LOVED it. It's a real page-turner -- a fantastic mystery (but not a thriller -- there's no graphic death, autopsies, or detective work), great characters, and also a little quirky in places.

Last year I read The History of Love by Nicole Krauss, and The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. Both of them were fantastic reads, and I've given them as gifts to all my sisters and sisters-in-law, to rave reviews.

Happy reading!

Have you ever read a bend in the road by Nicholas Sparks? I love him, but that book is a romantic mystery so it may be right up your alley.
